Powell, OH – ‘Tis the season to share the reason for good cheer at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. And, in partnership with Columbus Parent Magazine, on Wednesday, Dec. 22, and Thursday, Dec. 23, the Zoo will offer free admission to anyone who brings five nonperishable food items with them that will be donated to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Show a nonperishable food item at the entrance to the parking lot and entrants also will receive free parking. As always, Columbus Zoo members and children under two years old will be admitted for free.
“It’s been an outstanding year for the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium,” said the Zoo’s President and CEO Dale Schmidt, “from opening Polar Frontier to welcoming two million visitors. If we can translate some of that success into more supplies for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, that would bring our year to a great close.”
“We’re proud to help sponsor this wonderful initiative with the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium,” said Columbus Parent Editor Jane Hawes. “When families in Ohio and throughout the country think about Central Ohio, the Zoo is always tops on the list. And to share their success with others in need just validates the leading role they play in this community.”
  • The Mid-Ohio Foodbank prefers the following items:
  • Canned meats, fruits, vegetables, soups, chili and juice
  • Dry beans, rice, corn meal, oatmeal and pasta
  • Baking mixes and pie filling
  • Boxed potatoes, dressing and gravy mix
The Zoo is open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Dec. 22 and 23.
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is open 363 days of the year.  General admission is $12.99 for adults, $7.99 for children ages 2 to 9 and seniors 60+.  Children under 2 and Columbus Zoo members are free.  The Zoo was named the #1 Zoo in America by USA Travel Guide and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA.)  For more information and to purchase advance Zoo admission tickets, visit
