Powell, OH – The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will host its annual Teddy Bear Safari from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 14.  Any child ages 2 to 9 visiting the Zoo that brings a teddy bear on this day will receive free admission when accompanied by a paying adult.

The Columbus Children’s Hospital clinic volunteers will be on site offering medical attention to the teddies.  Children are invited to bring their special friends for wellness checkups and more.  Some may need an eye patch or stitches, while some may just need band-aids for minor “boo-boos”.  It’s an opportunity for children to learn a little about the healthcare industry and their own annual check-ups. Face-painting and character ambassadors will also be on-hand for children.

In addition to the teddy bear clinic, guests can attend a special bear talk at 12:30 p.m. in the Conservation Education auditorium; titled “The Status of Black Bears in Ohio” by Suzie Prange, Forest Wildlife Research Biologist.

On both Saturday and Sunday guests can stroll through the Bear Awareness tables located throughout North America and Asia Quest or see the bears in action at polar bear Keeper Talks given at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. Special enrichment items will be given to the grizzly bears, black bear and sun bears at 2 p.m.

Teddy Bear Safari is presented by Columbus Children’s Hospital and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is open 363 days of the year.  The Zoo was named the #1 Zoo in America by USA Travel Guide and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA.)  For more information and to purchase advance Zoo admission tickets, visit www.columbuszoo.org
